Mark Cuban Finances Stock-Fraud Web Site

“I just hired a young, award winning journalist to partner with me on a blog that will do nothing but try to uncover corporate fraud. Young, energetic, fired up and damn the stuff i have seen so far is good.”
– Mark Cuban

Billionaire Mark Cuban is no stranger to sharing his personal views about the stock market and its players. While he is busily waiting in anticipation for a Dallas Maverick NBA World Championship, he is still working on other ventures in the background.

One such venture is ShareSleuth.com, a new journalism venture by business reporter Christopher Carey that will start to go live July 2006. Mark Cuban’s involvement in the venture was revealed in the internal announcement of Carey leaving the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to work on Sharesleuth.

What is ShareSleuth?
ShareSleuth is set to become a site which will focus on stock fraud and executive malfeasance — a subject that Cuban talks candidly on his personal blog. Mark Cuban reveals himself as the only investor in the project; a project that will garner publicity and respect because of his backing.

Mark has always been vocal about how ordinary investors don’t stand much of a chance playing the stock market. This may be his earnest attempt to bridge that gapp. However, Mark will most likely not be involved in ShareSleuth’s editorial process. But if he is putting his money in, you can be certain that there’s something he likes about Chris Carey! Read more from the man himself on his May 31st blog.

The site is currently still underwraps, but it will be interesting to see if ShareSleuth will adopt a blog, pseudo-blog format. The other measuring stick will be how well it stacks up not only the old stock research sites like MarketWatch, TheStreet.com, but also to modern research sites like SocialPicks, StockTickr, Gradr (my latest discovery).
