I purchased income trusts after the Conservatives promised not to tax them - so I didn't have huge gains when the tax hit - lost big dollars. Additionally, this is a retroactive tax - that's unacceptable. I made a purchase decision under an existing tax structure and should be grandfathered with respect to the new tax rules. The gov't should not be able to retroactively change the rules of the game. Obviously, I can't trust the Conservatives to do what they say they will do. So here's the slogan "the Liberals stole taxpayer's money but the Conservatives stole my money - vote Liberal". Send Flaherty back into private law practice with his indexed pension. Thats just crazy I hadn't yet done the math or thought so in debth about this huge feasco! I'm crossing my fingers and toes that they open up the tax free rights to at least the Utilies and Mining trusts in which they were intended for, however this hole ordeal is one big crock of B.S!!!
